"I began writing music when my Junior High Band director showed us a free application called "Finale Notepad." I downloaded it and began notating simple melodies and my passion grew from there. I began writing more complex rhythms and harmonies and began to truly love discovery and composing.
"I was also inspired by several of my colleagues who were great musicians themselves and who had shared with me some of their work. Their examples led me to experiment and present a score of my first serious pieces to my band director. He was kind enough to let our band perform some of them and was very encouraging all along the way. Since then, I have had so many mentors who have influenced me to develop my own voice through composition."

Robert Charles "Bobby" Alger, born 1995, is an alumnus of Brigham Young University (‘20) with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and minors in Music and Business Management.
A frequent and experienced performer, he’s backed a variety of artists such as Ben Rector (pop), Tony Vega (salsa), Columbia Jones (blues rock), Rufio (rap/hip-hop), and more. He records and produces under the moniker “Bobby St. Mute”.
He has received numerous awards and recognition including the John Phillip Sousa Award (2013), Vera Hinckley Mayhew Creative Arts Contest—Third Prize (2019), Outstanding Soloist - Peaks Jazz Festival (2009), Superior - State Solo & Ensemble - (2012, 2013), State Champion - Red Rocks Marching Band Competition - (2009, 2011, 2012). He is a graduate from the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy (DMA) and is also an AP Scholar with Distinction.
A self-proclaimed aesthete, he also enjoys cycling and hiking with his wife, Amber, and dogs, Mackey and Rue.
