Retazos de una memoria ajena roughly translates from Spanish to “fragments of a memory not my own.”
I finished my undergraduate degree in Spanish with a survey of Latin American literature. One of the units centered on Juan Rulfo’s masterpiece, Pédro Páramo, and my final essay centered on Gabriel García Márquez’s opus magnum, Cien años de soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude). Both novels deal with elements of collective memories and fates linked to ancestors.
This work is the product of the ruminations I’ve enjoyed thanks to these two—as well as other—Spanish-language authors.

This is also the first work I’ve written since beginning to really dive into the art of music engraving. I’m working on establishing something of a “house style” and I’m quite pleased with how this score looks visually, though I know there is yet much to learn.
See this blog post about Large Time Signatures, which is an important part of that “house style".
